Connecting a TikTok account

The hub uses TikTok Login Kit to connect an account and the TikTok Content Posting API to publish to it. A connection is made once, by the account owner, and can be removed at any time.

How the connection is made

On a brand's TikTok page in the hub, the account owner clicks Connect and is sent to TikTok's own login and consent screen. They sign in to TikTok there, review the permissions being requested, and approve or decline. We never see or store a TikTok password, and the hub only receives a token after the owner has approved.

Only one TikTok account can be connected to a brand at a time, and a member of one brand cannot see or post to another brand's connected account.

What each permission is used for

Confirm which profile is connected

Reads the connected account's open ID, display name and avatar. The hub shows these so it is always clear whose account a brand is about to post to, and it re-checks the identity before publishing so it can refuse to post if the wrong profile is connected.

video.publish

Direct Post

Publishes an approved video straight to the connected profile at the scheduled time. This is the mode a brand chooses when the artist wants the hub to handle posting end to end.

video.upload

Upload as a draft

Sends the video to the account owner's TikTok inbox as a draft instead of publishing it. They add their own finishing touches in the TikTok app and post it themselves. Each brand chooses Direct Post or Upload draft on its TikTok connection page, and can switch between them at any time.

What the hub does not do

It does not read a connected account's videos, followers, comments, direct messages or analytics.
It does not post to any account that has not been explicitly connected by its owner.
It does not post anything a person has not approved in the hub first. See how it works.
It does not follow, like, comment or message on the account's behalf.

Disconnecting

A connection can be removed from the brand's TikTok page in the hub, or revoked from the TikTok app under Settings, Security and permissions, Apps. Either one stops all future posting immediately. Videos already published stay on the account and are managed from TikTok like any other post; the account owner can delete them there.
